In the summer of 1992, against all odds, I said yes to a life of faith. I felt like I all but audibly heard God’s voice loud and clear: it’s time to live the life you were meant to live. While my childhood dream was to become a heart surgeon, God had a different kind of heart surgery in mind. I realized that my life’s purpose was to help point people to only One who can heal the broken-hearted: Jesus Christ.
That same summer (and all through college), I served as a Christian camp counselor for 4th graders. Then I became a youth minister. Simultaneously, I became a guitar-playing worship leader for Group Workcamps (where I eventually met my wife). By 1997, I was being asked to lead worship for church events and conferences all across the country and by 2003 I had become a national speaker and author for Group Magazine (while still serving as a youth minister). These were some of the most enjoyable years of my life and really helped me cut my teeth in ministry. Truth is, I still shudder at the words: lock-in and chubby bunny.
After unsuccessfully running from God, I enrolled in Princeton Theological Seminary in 2006, and graduated with a Master of Divinity in 2009. I am currently finishing my Doctor of Ministry degree at Fuller Theological Seminary. As a youth leader and pastor I have helped historic churches re-imagine their ministry methods in order to reach younger generations through creativity, risk, trust, imagination, love and lots and lots of prayer! In the end, it’s the same principle for churches as it is for individuals: we must all learn to tune-in to God’s voice to discover the path marked out for us… and let the flourishing begin.
I currently serve as the Senior Pastor of Tower Hill Church (First Presbyterian Red Bank) in Red Bank, NJ, and am supported by my amazing wife, Karin, and our three beautiful children. I am just in constant awe at what God has done and continues to do in my life.
I’m excited that you’re here. If you are ready to stop drifting and start living your life according to God’s design, you are in the right place. It’s a privilege to take this journey with you. Welcome!
